Diploma in Optometry (D.OPTOM)

Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated and regulated (licensed/registered).

Optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.


After completing the D.Optom Candidates are able to:

Perform vision tests and analyze results

Diagnose sight problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, and eye diseases, such as glaucoma

Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other visual aids, and if state law permits, medications

Perform minor surgical procedures to correct or treat visual or eye health issues

Provide treatments such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation

Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery—for example, examining a patient's eyes the day after surgery

Evaluate patients for the presence of other diseases and conditions, such as diabetes or hypertension, and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed

Promote eye and general health by counseling patients

Performed minor surgeries &  some treatments of eye diseases

Practice independently or have a joint practice along with an ophthalmologist.

 Be a member of professional services in corporate organization

Become a researcher in basic science and clinical research

IIMT University offers sound knowledge of different types of theoretical and industry oriented knowledge; research and development education which provide exposure in dealing with challenging projects The student has to work on various activities like refraction, diagnosis and rehabilitation conditions of the eye which is the example of the way in which education is imparted to the students.
